Old martial methods concealed in the old KATA

 

Old Kata or forms inherited in the traditional art like Karate, also imply old martial art methodology. However, many practical application has become lost while the form remains. Many of the old Katas especially the famous NAIFANCHI, its Bunkai ( break down) has suffered Shitsuden (lost art) that, it has become renown for containing full of mysterious movement. For decades, majority of these Bunkai has been practiced throughout the world by applying usual striking and some throwing methodology to forcibly fit the Kata leading to impractical movement.  For this reason, many unsatisfied practitioner has been putting effort in decoding these mystique forms to make practical sense, but journey is yet to be continued till this day. (year 2019)

 

However, the old traditional Kata like NAIFANCHI, the in depth fundamental  Bunkai will be possible without difficulty by including lost art of Atemi KUMIUCHI (grapple strike) technique, a more realistic perspective containing joint submission and throws form striking dynamic that are utilized by Wagou Kobujyutsu. With this notion, Bunkai that manifest practical tactic of the old Kata becomes possible.  (NAIFANCHI BUNKAI released  by SHITOUKAN 2020)

 

Since we believe that many martial art methods share or has the same origin,  ancient art form comes from same source, so we have attempted to break down the Kata using Bunkai application from Shitoukan’s perspective.

 

If NAIFANCHI Kata is viewed as “solution formula or equation ” and Wagou Kobujyutsu methodology is applied, Shitoukans counter offensive complete movement fits precisely right into the Kata reviving the ancient methodology. The  hidden Kumiuchi technique from Atemi consisted of simultaneous strike, joint lock, throws from beginning to the end reveals NAIFANCHI as devastating Torite or Taihojyutsu or subduing technique. On the other hand, the fact that one of the answer were obtained for the thorough practical NAIFANCI Bunkai that remained long time mystery can be looked at as Kata’s inversed validation of the practicality of Wagou Kobujyutsu.

古い型に秘められている古の武術の姿

 

空手などの伝統武術に継承されている多くの古い型も昔の術理を黙示しています。しかし形は残りつつもその多くの実技が失伝しているのも事実です。多くの古い型、特にナイファンチの分解は、歴史を通しての失伝により謎とされている部分が多いことは広く知られている事実です。過去数十年以上に渡り世界中で行われているナイファンチの現代の分解は、その多くが打撃や投げに特化された視点を、強引に型に当てはめた解釈で行われており、これらは実用的な仕様として説得力に乏しいことはよく知られています。この事から、未だに多くの武術家が型の分解の見直しと解読に取りかかっており、その行路は現時点でも続いています。(2019年時点)。

 

しかしナイファンチなどの型は、現在多くの場合で失伝している和合古武術古の術理、つまり攻防一体の当身による「組み打ち」から成る投げ技や関節技を全体的に含む実戦的見地から、無理なく分解が可能になります。全体性がある技の解釈によって初めて、本質的な型の分解が可能になるのです。(志統館よりナイファンチの分解2020公開)

 

当館の理念では、各武術は共有や派生元の関係から古の術理の大本は一つであると考える事より、現在では空手の型として伝わるナイファンチの分解を志統館の見地から試みました。ナイファンチの型を答えを求める「方程式や公式」として用いてそこに和合古武術の内容を盛り込むと、攻防一体で全体的な術理がぴたりと型に当てはまり、古の術理が蘇ります。始まりから終わりまで全てを通した一連の打撃、関節技、投げや固めから成る全体的な組み打ち技を包括するナイファンチの型は、ここで初めて劇的な取り手および逮捕術である事がわかります。一方で、和合古武術を用いてナイファンチの実践的な始終連鎖した分解・応用という、長年謎とされていた一つの「答えが導かれる」事実を逆算的に見ると、型による和合古武術の適合性の黙示と理解することもできます。

The Kapukuia Lua, a Hawaiian martial arts which were passed down among Native Hawaiians keeps the original bone braking and dislocating emphasis of martial art to this day. Lua consisted all in one method of throw, joint manipulation and lock derived from simultaneous strike dynamic, rendering devastating counter offence method has been passed down within the Hawaiian ancestry.

 

The recently publicized genealogy shows The Hawaiian Lua has a connection to the Japanese martial arts, with which it has had a treaty between the countries  since the kingdom era, and recently released historical genealogical records document that connection.

 

From this perspective, one can see the similarity with in Lua, and find the lost technique in the Japanese martial art to relearn a lot from it. Tegoi were blessed with influences from Lua and its deep philosophy.

ハワイ先住民族の禁断武術が秘める古の武術の姿

 

ハワイには現在までほとんど失伝がない状態で武術が残されているカプクイア・ルアという脱臼と骨折を奥義とする古武術があります。志統館の発足に多大な関係性を持つ武術でもあるルアは、打撃の力を応用した投げ、固め、関節技が全体的かつ攻防一体で作動する圧倒的な技で、ハワイ先住民族の間で受け継がれている禁断武術です。ハワイのルアは、王朝時代から友好関係を持っている日本の武術との交流があり、最近公表された歴史系図にはその繋がりが記されています。この事から現代では失伝した当時の日本武術の原型もルアの中に垣間見ることができ、また多くをルアから学ぶことができるのです。

Effective and devastating martial art methods such as breaking and dislocating joints are mentioned in old manuscript or by oral instruction. However, since many of these skills has been forbidden becoming  SHITSUDEN or lost art, it became almost unimaginable from the modern concept that these essence and mysteries of the art has become an illusion.

To begin with, the reasoning for characteristic movement of many of Karate’s Kata (form) remains in mystery, and Aikido’s Atemi Shichiwari (70 percent Atemi) concept are still the center of the debate due to many viewpoints, and debate has not been concluded to this date.

 

Shitoukan’s Tegoi is inspired with simultaneous occurrence of the various Waza originating from Atemi Kumiuchi (grapple strikes), similar to the old way philosophy of art that revives the old methodology. In reverse, techniques conformity to old Kata and philosophy also affirms the legitimacy of these techniques.
