2。Origin of Japanese Martial arts
Origin of Japanese Martial arts
The Origin of Japanese Martial art goes back to the mythical age. First original martial art is recorded as TEGOI “手乞” on the oldest written record known as KOJIKI (Records of ancient matter), which was used in KUNI-YUZURI episode, by TAKEMIKAZUCHI-NO-KAMI, a god of sword and thunder.
Afterwards, around 2000 years ago during Emperor Suinin’s era, bone breaking/dislocating martial art done by Nomi no Sukune is written in the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), a second oldest book of classical Japanese history. Since then martial arts are known with over 10 variety of names such as Sumo, juujutsu, Kenpou, Sappou, Ninjyutsu, Ashige, Hakuda, Kumiuchi and so on.
Since Japanese martial art originated from TEGOI linked to divine being as its ancestry, its core essence is to manifest the positive spirit in to the mechanics and ki (energy) of waza (technique) by tapping into the higher power to generate optimal effect. That is why martial art is practiced with utmost respect to embrace spirituality that extends to Bushido spirit.
